Down By The River...
Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do - I am he and she is she but you're the only you...
Don't want a life of lies and pretense
Don't want to play attack and defense
Just want my own life. I want to be free
So you can be you, and I can be me
“You Can Be Who?” Crass
Went to a show last night down by the river here in Richmond - these sort of outdoor, guerrilla shows have always been my favorite. For me, part of what always makes punk interesting to me is the reclamation and creation of space for things to happen - this often matters more to me than the sounds or art created. The opportunity for things to happen in a world where there is a constant focus on creation and monetization of “content” is just so important. It’s these brief moments of creation and reclamation of our lives which make life more worth living.
One of the main drivers to how I approach photography is an attempt to capture these moments and hopefully inspire others to create these moments in their own lives, as much as I am inspired by the people who work to create these moments such as the ones depicted in these images.
Here are the bands which played, in order: Ivy Creep, Cicada, Anomaly, Necron 9, & Public Acid.
