What’s all this?
Razorblades & Aspirin is print fanzine, an Instagram account, a really great song by Leatherface, and generally the umbrella term for Michael Thorn (that’s me) to create cool shit. So, why a Substack? Why not? Printing is expensive, distribution is a pain, and while I generally think the internet is a toilet stall filled with little shits, it does provide a means to reach out to and connect with a large amount of people cheaply and easily. This doesn’t mean the end of the print zine, a sizable portion of the content found within will end up in print - as I am someone who believes, only print is real.
Give you money?!
This will continue to be free - that said, I’ll gladly take your financial support. Going to shows, keeping my camera gear in good shape, dental work, therapy, buying records, just existing - it all costs money. I’ll do this regardless but if you have a few bucks to support this project, it is greatly appreciated. In the future, I’ll do thanks gifts like prints, postcards, supporters only print zine and other shit.
Wait who are you?
Michael Thorn is a photographer, writer & stuff doer who never got over the mental scarring of seeing GG Allin at much too early an age. He publishes the fanzine Razorblades & Aspirin - an irregularly published zine that aspires to be a fancy art magazine for bands playing to 50 people in a basement. To date there have been about 20 issues - though he’s not really sure because he keeps losing count, did too many randomly numbered issues, and technically he’s on issue 16 so, well, you know...
His work has appeared in Kerrang, Short Fast & Loud, El Zine, New Noise, Heartattack, CvltNation, NoEcho, Decibel, Revolver, Maximum Rocknroll, and a bunch of records.
